Tenerife Trip - Diving Day 5

Another day, another dive…

After a long think about things, I decided not to do the first dive of the day at Rad Azul, as the rest of the gang were talking about going over a drop off down to 54 metres to look in a cave, and I just did not want to go there, so canned the idea of this dive, but went along and snorkelled in the bay/harbour area at the entry point. I was joined by Kirstie who had pretty much the same thoughts as me on this dive, so we spent a very pleasant hour snorkelling looking at the fish around the shore rocks. Saw loads of Blennys which I hadn’t seen before, as well as more of the usual. Watched the gang return from their dives and from the surface watched them scrabbling around the bottom taking photos etc while carrying out their deco time, then exited with them. Sue and Andy had gone off in a different direction as they had decided not to go over the drop off from 30 metres or so, and they had not yet returned. It later transpired that Marco Polo (Andy) had taken a slight wrong turn and they had surfaced about three bays along the coastline, meaning a VERY long surface swim indeed. Andy was to be the butt of many jokes for the rest of the week, but he took it all very well considering :D

Then it was back along TF1 to Las Eras and a repeat of a dive that we had completed earlier in the week. A beach entry, and around the rocks down to the swimthrough, which I negotiated much more easily second time around. On the way back Gareth took a couple of pictures of me swimming through a small overhang/hole in the rocks, and I then took the camera and had a go at capturing him on film doing the same. I wonder if they came out! When we got back to the beach, there was a lot of activity from the wildlife, similarly to how it had been at the end of our first dive there, so this time I was prepared for what to look for, and saw a lot more than I had the first time. Trumpetfish, Ornate Wrasse and barracuda abounded on this dive. Another good dive on another of my favourite dive sites of the week.

Dive 9 (66) 16 metres, 49 minutes total dive time

Some pics of the gang at Rad Azul just before their dive to almost 50 metres.

Well done for not doing the deep dive, always the right decision.

I’m with Conor - much respect to you and Kirstie. A good diver knows his (her) own comfort zone.
