Derek’s Dive Domain

Day three dawns bright and sunny (there’s a shock in Tenerife!), and after another leisurely breakfast, its back on the dive bus for another days diving. After collecting the kit from the dive bunker, we head out along TF1 to Los Abrigos, which for those that know it is a dive site where you can start the dive by jumping into a large rockpool, after walking down through some handbuilt houses in the rockface (which are being demolished at the whim of the local authorities; a shame in my opinion).

We hopped into the water at the rockpool and swam through the opening and into the open sea. This was a nice easy simple dive, out and along by the beach, around a little reef and back again. On the way out Michael and the gang upturned an illegal catching pot and released the fish in it, so doing the bit for conservation for the week On this dive I saw my first Nudibranch, although this was in a small rockpool on the way to the entry point! I also saw various flounder and Sea Cucumbers. A nice relaxing dive, lasting the best part of an hour before coming out at the beach near to the bus, and climbing up some steps cut into the rock. Then its back into the bus for the SI and a quick hop along the coastline to Montana Amaralla (No jokes about Is This the Way to Amaralla please!) This is another shore dive, with the entry point down a ladder into a rocky cove which I guess is in place really for the swimmers. This was a really nice dive, out and along a rock wall, around a headland where there was a whole plain of Garden Eels, and the up through the headland of rock before heading back again. Cuttlefish, Barracuda, Fireworms and Bream were the order of the day on this dive, which boasted some of the best viz of the week.

Montana Amaralla

Collected a few nice shells on this dive, which I’m pleased to report I managed to get back to the UK without breaking, giving me a nice momento of the dive and the holiday.
