A Weighty Issue

Well, I popped into the shop at Stoney on my way home from work today and bought a couple of kilos of lead shot. The last time I dived I was quite a bit underweighted and couldn’t stay down at 6 metres after a dive down to the Stanegarth, which caused a problematic ascent without completing a safety stop. Fortunately it wasn’t problematic, but is obviously something that I need to sort pronto.

Lead Shot for the Weightbelt

I’ve rearranged my weight belt and levelled out the shot in the bags, and made room for another kilo or two. So I shall be adding a kilo before my next dive and seeing how it goes, and taking it from there. This is the only problem with a full on neoprene drysuit, you do need a lot of weight to get down as it is so bouyant at shallow depths, but at least the suit is warmer! Not sure exactly how much I will have on the belt, so I must weigh the bags again before my next dive to be sure.
So tomorrow night will be mostly spent getting my kit ready for the Annual Freeze-Your-Bits-Off-At-Stoney Yorkshire Divers gig at the weekend..
